Dedication and Baptism at
Cottonwood Community Church |
Cottonwood Community Church’s statement of faith concisely
explains our belief about baptism: that it is for the believer in
Jesus Christ, that it involves immersion into water, and that it
has no bearing in salvation, but rather is an expression of obedience
and commitment to God in a life of following Jesus Christ. As such,
we do not baptize infants. We realize there are numerous opinions
about baptism and the pastors would be happy to visit with you on
this important matter.
However, we do provide opportunities for parents to publicly dedicate
their children to God. Dedications are scheduled on an ‘as
need’ basis and are conducted during our Sunday morning worship
service. During the dedication, parents are up front with their
children as the pastor shares a devotional message and prays over
them. The parents declare their intentions to raise their children
for the Lord and the church family affirms its support in that worthy
endeavor. This is a wonderful time of celebration of God’s
gift of children to us and is a great opportunity to invite friends
and family. You will also receive a certificate of remembrance suitable
for framing.
Dedicating your child involves:
--> Making your home a place that is conducive to spiritual growth.
Please make it a habit to pray with your family and also read the
Bible out loud regularly.
--> Living in a manner that is worthy of the Lord. May your conduct
and speech exemplify that of a Christian.
--> Connecting with the church. Raising your child to follow
Jesus Christ is going to require the involvement of people outside
of your family. Involvement in the church is vital for healthy spiritual
development.
You do not have to be a sterling example of a complete Christian
to dedicate your child – after all, which of us is? We simply
want to encourage you to be moving in the right direction and we
will all do our best by the grace of God to help!
Supporting you in the noble task of parenting,
